How to create videos using a GreenScreen

The absolute easiest way I’ve found to create videos using a green screen is using a mac, Imovie09 and iLife09 and a HD camera along with a bunch of lights.

Step one: The screen

Screens can be made very very … ah inexpensive using construction paper from walmart or whatever… but let’s face it, if you do it this way your just a cheap skate, SPEND the 30 bucks and order a 6 foot by 9 foot long real deal green screen.

Step two: Set up Lights… Lots and lots of lights.

Lights have to be in enough places that they neutralize the shadow. If you have just one powerful light, then you’ll have a shadow and with green screens that’s not good.

If you have multiple lights, at a bunch of different angles, then you eliminate the shadow and that’s what you need to have in order to make a great looking green screen video.

You see how there are lights pointing at just the screen, and then others lighting the subject which is being filmed. Lights pointed directly at the screen help BIG time when eliminating shadows.

Now you have your screen, you have your lights.

Step 3: Imovie09 and ILife09 along with an HD camera.

Imovie09 is the easiest program to use for video editing.

ILife needs to be installed to give you the ability to do green screen work through Imovie09.

You can get away with something as inexpensive as a flip cam… or

Or you can go with the heavy duty camera or anything in between.

I look at it like this, the camera is going to be in a still position, it’s not moving all around, the lighting is going to be GREAT because it has to be, so then the biggest difference is the sound quality. (Not saying the flip will do the same thing at the big boy camera but it’ll work)

SOUND QUALITY will be a big factor in having a professional looking, AND SOUNDING video.
